Lucknow: Lucknow came alive with colour, music, and collective celebration as Repertwahr Festival Season 13 commenced at Janeshwar Mishra Park (Gate No. 6). Under twinkling lights and amid lively crowds, the opening day unfolded in an atmosphere steeped in creativity, cultural pride, and artistic joy, setting an inspiring tone for the festival’s journey ahead.
From the very first moments, the festival resonated with energy and enthusiasm. Audiences gathered in large numbers, reaffirming Repertwahr’s vision of creating an inclusive platform that celebrates music, theatre, literature, food, and crafts, while bringing together diverse communities from across Uttar Pradesh. The space transformed into a vibrant cultural commons, where tradition met contemporary expression.
The day began on the SHABD Stage with a contemplative musical performance by Chandulal Kalburgi, whose distinctive fusion of classical sitar and folk elements created a deeply immersive soundscape. His nuanced melodies and layered compositions set a soulful, reflective mood, gently drawing listeners into the festival’s artistic ethos and inviting moments of introspection amid the festive buzz.

The Theatre Arena was formally inaugurated by Jaiveer Singh, Minister of Tourism, Government of Uttar Pradesh, and Amrit Abhijat, Principal Secretary, Tourism & Culture Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh. Their presence underscored the state’s continued commitment to nurturing cultural platforms that preserve heritage while encouraging contemporary performing arts.

A standout highlight of Day 1 was the acclaimed theatrical production “Mohan Ka Masala”, starring Pratik Gandhi and directed by Manoj Shah. The powerful play delved into the early life of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, offering audiences a poignant and layered portrayal that blended historical insight with emotional depth. The performance struck a chord with viewers and emerged as the centrepiece of the day’s theatre programming.

Beyond the stages, visitors experienced the festival in its full, multidimensional form. The Food Arena bustled with aromas of Lucknow’s authentic cuisine alongside contemporary flavours, while the Artisanal Bazaar showcased traditional crafts from across Uttar Pradesh, celebrating regional skill and craftsmanship. Meanwhile, BACHPAN, the dedicated children’s zone, became a hub of creativity, laughter, and engagement for young visitors and families.
The opening day concluded on a spiritually resonant note with a Sufi vocal performance by Deveshi Sahgal on the SHABD Stage. Her soul-stirring renditions of timeless qawwalis and devotional melodies captivated the audience, enveloping the park in an atmosphere of devotion, reflection, and transcendence beneath the starlit sky—bringing a memorable close to an evocative first day of Repertwahr Festival Season 13.
